This study examines in detail the profound adversities faced by Syrian refugees residing in Turkey under temporary protection—who migrated due to the internal conflict in Syria starting in 2011—across the domains of health, employment, psychosocial life, and education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The approximately 3.7 million Syrian refugees in Turkey encountered severe difficulties in accessing essential protective health measures, such as masks, disinfectants, and hygienic living conditions that emerged with the pandemic. Disruptions occurred in accessing healthcare services owing to language barriers, overcrowded household environments, inadequate nutrition, and quarantine processes, while the fear of stigmatization and job loss further heightened the risk of virus transmission. From an economic perspective, refugees, mostly employed in insecure and daily jobs, lost their employment due to lockdown measures and faced heavy income loss since they could not directly benefit from public support packages. Combined with future anxiety and the risk of social exclusion, this situation markedly escalated psychological pressure, depression cases, and domestic tensions within the group. Regarding education, 48% of the approximately 1.5 million school-aged children were unable to integrate into the distance learning system and remained deprived of education due to a lack of computers, internet access, and tablets, as well as language barriers. In conclusion, the study emphasizes that to alleviate the problems experienced by this vulnerable population, translation support must be provided, psychosocial assistance opportunities expanded, distance education infrastructure improved, and inclusive policies aimed at boosting employment urgently implemented.
