Communication has been the fundamental means of meeting individuals’ needs to understand and be understood by others since the dawn of human existence. Communication skills, which form the foundation of human life, develop as a result of genetic, environmental, and individual factors. Effective and appropriate communication skills play a significant role in helping individuals establish positive social relationships and gain acceptance within society. Environments characterized by suitable conditions and minimal restrictions provide greater opportunities for learning and interaction. To ensure such opportunities, legal, administrative, and educational regulations have been established both in Türkiye and around the world to enable individuals with special educational needs to benefit from equal educational and life opportunities alongside their typically developing peers. Within the scope of special education services, inclusive education, which enables students with special educational needs to receive education alongside their peers in mainstream schools, is of particular importance. Inclusive education is one of the most effective approaches to promoting the social, psychological, and academic integration and adaptation of individuals with disabilities into their peer groups. Another effective means of achieving this goal is physical activity, exercise, and sports. These activities provide an important avenue for strengthening the relationships of individuals with disabilities with society by fostering physical awareness, developing coping and problem-solving skills, and enhancing their ability to act collaboratively, both individually and as members of a team. They also offer opportunities for individuals to reflect on and better understand their own lives. Furthermore, while inclusive education benefits individuals with special educational needs, it also helps typically developing individuals develop positive attitudes and behaviors toward living alongside people with disabilities. These benefits make a significant contribution to social integration and cohesion. Despite these contributions, individuals with disabilities encounter various social barriers as they seek to integrate into society and adapt to social life. Over time, these barriers may develop into obstacles that are difficult to overcome. Moreover, the ways in which individuals with disabilities perceive their disabilities, whether congenital or acquired for various reasons, are shaped by their social environments. The cultural meanings attributed to disability are constructed and reshaped through interactions between individuals within the broader social structure. Within this context, the present study examines the communication skills of individuals with disabilities, inclusive education, physical activity, and the social integration of individuals with disabilities, drawing on examples from Türkiye and around the world.
