This study comprehensively examines the importance of online learning in sports education, the digital transformation process accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenges encountered, and proposed solutions. Online learning, which has become independent of time and space thanks to technological advancements, emerged as a mandatory instructional method in higher education and sports science institutions during the pandemic. However, the practical and physical movement-based nature of physical education and sports discipline brought about various pedagogical and technical challenges, such as establishing the link between theory and practice, transferring movement skills, evaluation processes, and digital access inequalities. To overcome these challenges and enhance educational quality, the use of Web 2.0 technologies—such as animations, video conferencing software (Zoom, Skype, Google Meet), interactive learning tools (Kahoot, Padlet), video analysis platforms (Coach's Eye), and online blogs—is recommended to support academics and pre-service teachers. Furthermore, online and blended (hybrid) learning models in coach education and adapted physical education for students with disabilities have been found to enhance professional development, information sharing, and accessibility for geographically disadvantaged groups. In conclusion, online sports education structured with appropriate pedagogical strategies provides time and cost savings while contributing to a flexible and sustainable educational framework for the future.
