In the study authored by Kadir Aksay and Dilara Ünüvar Ünlüoğlu, the concept of green logistics shaped within the framework of sustainability principles is comprehensively examined through its historical development, conceptual framework, dimensions, obstacles, paradoxes, strategic importance, indicators, and practical examples from around the world and Turkey. Green logistics is defined as the efficient design and operation of logistics activity systems to cause minimal or no harm to the environment. Aiming to establish a balance among economic, environmental, and social dimensions, this approach encompasses purchasing social responsibility, sustainable transportation, sustainable packaging, sustainable warehousing, and reverse logistics components. Internal investment costs and lack of information, alongside external barriers such as inadequate technology and regulatory gaps, together with paradoxes emerging in cost, time, reliability, warehousing, and e-commerce, complicate the execution of green logistics practices. Nevertheless, green logistics holds strategic importance for reducing external dependence and fossil fuel consumption, lowering carbon emissions, and handing down a livable environment to future generations. Digitalization, intermodal transport, electric vehicles, and innovative packaging solutions accelerate the sustainable transformation in logistics, while concrete applications from companies like DHL, IKEA, Ekol Logistics, and Arkas Holding serve as industry benchmarks. Ultimately, this green approach uniting environmental awareness with commercial efficiency stands as a fundamental driver of sustainable development and future global competitiveness.
