In the study authored by Hamdi Ayyıldız and Ömer Büyükbaş, the impacts of climate change on food security, food safety, and food marketing are examined in detail. Hydro-meteorological changes, such as rising temperatures, droughts, and irregular precipitation regimes, reduce agricultural productivity and hinder the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Food security and food safety are directly linked, with contaminated food causing hundreds of thousands of deaths and hundreds of millions of illnesses globally each year. Environmental conditions triggered by the climate crisis increase the spread, survival rates, and transmission risks of climate-sensitive pathogens such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, Vibrio, and various parasites. Furthermore, the thawing of permafrost poses the threat of ancient viruses and bacteria re-emerging. Beyond health issues, foodborne outbreaks impose substantial economic costs on businesses due to product recalls and legal processes. In this context, it is critically important for agricultural and food companies to comply with ISO standards, adopt climate-resilient production models, prepare marketing plans based on microbiological roadmaps, establish reliable supply chains, and enhance their technical competence in hygiene and sanitation.
