Innovation and entrepreneurship have become a critical necessity to ensure the sustainability of the sports industry, cope with global crises such as COVID-19, and navigate constantly increasing competitive conditions. While innovation refers to the application of new or improved ideas that create value across sports organizations, management, events, and coaching processes, sports entrepreneurship encompasses the process of creating both economic and social value by pursuing opportunities beyond currently controlled resources. The sports sector consists of three main structures: the public sector, the community-based non-profit voluntary sector, and the commercialized professional sector. The sports entrepreneurship ecosystem is built upon nine core elements: access to finance, government policies, entrepreneurship education, research and technology transfer, legal infrastructure, market openness, physical infrastructure, and socio-cultural norms. Covering a wide spectrum ranging from sports tourism to equipment manufacturing, media, e-sports, and facility management, entrepreneurs in this field fundamentally transform how sports are played, watched, and organized through their roles in identifying opportunities and developing innovative strategies. Ultimately, the sustainable success of the ecosystem depends not only on individual entrepreneurial skills, but also on strong collaboration among public institutions, the private sector, managers, academics, and athletes, as well as promoting a culture of sports participation and implementing transparent roadmaps.
