Özet

Doç. Dr. İnci Boyacıoğlu Bal editörlüğünde Beyza Boyacı tarafından kaleme alınan Suriyeli ve Türk Gençlerin Kültürleşme Süreçleri ve Otobiyografik Anıları Üzerine Bir İnceleme başlıklı bu eser, doktora tezine dayanan kapsamlı bir sosyal psikoloji çalışması sunmaktadır. Kitap, 15-25 yaş aralığındaki Suriyeli göçmen ve Türk gençlerin tercih ettikleri kültürleşme yönelimleri ile benlik saygıları, psikolojik iyi oluş düzeyleri ve olumlu öztanımlayıcı otobiyografik bellek özellikleri arasındaki ilişkileri derinlemesine incelemektedir. Araştırma bulguları, Suriyeli gençlerde her iki kültürü benimseyen bütünleşme yönelimi güçlendikçe benlik saygısının, psikolojik iyi oluşun ve anıları detaylı, canlı biçimde hatırlama eğiliminin arttığını göstermektedir.

Edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. İnci Boyacıoğlu Bal and authored by Beyza Boyacı, A Study on Acculturation Processes and Autobiographical Memories of Syrian and Turkish Youth offers a comprehensive social psychology study derived from doctoral research. The book thoroughly examines the relationships between the acculturation orientations preferred by Syrian immigrant and Turkish youth aged 15–25 and their self-esteem, psychological well-being, and positive self-defining autobiographical memory characteristics. Research findings indicate that as integration orientation—which embraces both cultures—strengthens among Syrian youth, their self-esteem, psychological well-being, and tendency to recall memories in a detailed and vivid manner increase. Conversely, orientations such as marginalization and assimilation are associated with lower self-esteem, reduced well-being, and weaker memory reports. Furthermore, the study evaluates in detail the decisive role of Turkish language proficiency, duration of stay in Turkey, and socio-demographic factors on adaptation and memory processes. By revealing the impact of acculturation processes on cognitive and psychological mechanisms, this work makes significant contributions to the literature on migration psychology and memory, standing as an ideal resource for readers and researchers seeking to understand the psychological dynamics of both immigrant youth and host society members.
